Alaska Railroad Day

All aboard for the train trip of a lifetime! Since its early days, Anchorage has been at the heart of Alaska rail travel. Today, the Rail links Anchorage to Denali National Park, Kenai Fjords National Park, and Fairbanks. Day trips like this one are amazing journeys through Alaska wilderness complemented by a variety of outdoors activities.

Morning

Board the Alaska Railroad in Anchorage for the scenic trip south. The tracks follow the shoreline on Turnagain Arm, so admire the spectacular Alaska wilderness and keep an eye out for wildlife. The trip to the Spencer whistle stop is breathtaking, but it's only the start of today's adventure. Hop off for a date with a glacier.

Afternoon

Grab a deli-style lunch before heading for the lake. You’ll take a gentle float tour among the icebergs at Spencer Lake and down the Placer River. Professional guides, rain gear and rubber boots are provided by Chugach Adventure Guides.

Alternatively, you can opt for a brief kayak across through the bergs floating in Spencer Lake and rope up for a hike atop the glacier itself. Ascending Path shows Spencer visitors why the ice is nice. No matter which you choose, the Alaska Railroad has your ticket home after a day at the glacier.

Evening

The train returns to Anchorage just after 9 p.m. (For those short on time, arrange for transfer to a motorcoach at Portage on the return). The only ice tonight will be what’s in your drink! Grab a drink at an Anchorage bar and recount your icy adventures at the Spencer whistle stop. Cheers!
