Transformative experiences are a way of life for Anchorage residents. Come and play in a spectacularly wild setting. Experience the best of Alaska, all in one place! Lace up the hiking boots for a day of adventure. But make sure your dancing shoes are packed too; you’ll need them later.
Grab a box lunch from one of Anchorage’s delis or cafes and head north to the Eagle River Nature Center. Engaging year-round natural history talks, kids' activities, and guided summer nature walks give visitors an even better view of their surroundings. Snowshoe rentals and Nordic ski trails are available in winter.
Head back toward Anchorage and exit Arctic Valley Road to the Arctic Valley ski area. Hike up to Rendezvous Peak, a moderate hike great for fall berry picking and an unsurpassed 360-degree view of the Chugach Mountains any time of the year. Look carefully at the surrounding peaks; you may spot the remnants of a Nike missile site from the Cold War. In winter, two chair lifts and a T-bar offer 813 to 1,214 vertical feet of snow fun.
Catch the local beat! Check out First Tap Thursdays at Moose's Tooth Pub & Pizzeria. Other nightlife hotspots for live music include Koot's and Humpy's Great Alaskan Alehouse, just to name a few.
